MEET OUR PEOPLE

Michael Enstone.

Director, London BU.

Michael has joined the London Business unit to provide alternative insight and to deliver better value to our clients.

My career background.

I’ve been working as an MEP engineer for nearly 20 years. I originally started at Faber Maunsell (which became AECOM) where I progressed in the St. Albans office to eventually lead one of the three teams based there. I then moved to Hydrock in 2022 (now Stantec) to lead their MEP team nationally, managing 170 engineers across eight offices.

My new role.

My main experience is in the public sector, across Science & Research, Higher Education, Local Authority and Defence projects, so I will be looking to support the growth of these sectors in our London BU. I will also be supporting the development of the London team and providing insight and support through the systems changes, as I have been through this process twice before.

I’m passionate about...

…improving the reputation of MEP by focusing on delivering excellent value for our clients and inspiring the next generation. Particularly, I want to move the perception of the industry away from being a commodity or ‘necessary evil’, toward viewing us as valued partners who can drive real benefits to our clients.

I also firmly believe that we are not brining enough graduates into our industry as a whole and that we need to invest heavily in developing the next generation of engineers.

My most memorable work moment.

Standing in the basement of the Old War Office building. I was looking up through all five levels of basement and seeing six stories of grade 1 listed building - all supported on a 2-storey temporary truss - thinking, the reason we’ve had to dig so far down is to accommodate all the MEP plant.

In my spare time...

I enjoy DIY and growing my own fruit and veg, cooking for my friends and family, boardgames, and music (I play trombone and guitar). I have three kids: two boys (5 and 7) and one girl (15 months), so I have relatively little free time!
