Technical Excellence – shaping the future of your discipline.
In February, 43 colleagues from our Technical Excellence Communities came together for a forward-looking session on the future of our disciplines. Their day was packed but was centred on how our TechEx Communities and wider disciplines support the business to solve our client’s key challenges while actively embracing an evidence-led and data-driven future.
They had open and honest conversations about where we should collaborate and what knowledge, skills and behaviours we’ll need to bring the best of Hoare Lea to every project. tomorrow’s world together.
If you’ve got an idea for something new or how to improve something that already exists, submit it here Development Request Form. A day out at UWE.
12 of our early careers, Olly Price, Matt Partridge and Kelly Reed recently spent the afternoon at UWE. The Building Services degree programme leaders organised a full schedule of activities, including hands on experiences in their building services and digital labs, followed up with a presentation and Q&A with their Estates team. It was such a valuable experience, building connections and sharing knowledge. We have been invited back for a plant room tour!
Drainage demo with Year 4.
Nicole Feldman, Poppy Wickings, Skyler Ward and Minesh Varia visited the year 4 class at St Mary’s School in London to promote engineering as part of the South Molton Triangle team. They conducted a hands-on exercise to create a WC with a drainage network. Using a raisin as a stand-in for waste (use your imagination), our goal was to use as little water as possible to flush it through the drainage system.
At the end of the session, the children had numerous questions about why we chose to become engineers. It was inspiring to see some budding engineers who might consider joining our ranks in the future.

More learning at More house.
We recently supported More House, listening to their year 11 students’ presentations on building designs as part of their 'Design, Engineer, Construct programme'. We gave some feedback and suggestions for them to consider.
All these students have SEN, and it was wonderful to see a curriculum that is engaging them so well and you could see how much it meant to them. Several of them aspire for careers in the built environment because of this course.“
