Building Performance Awards 2026.
The CIBSE Building Performance Awards focus on actual, measured performance outcomes, and not just design intent or performance specifications. We target them every year, getting shortlisted and winning in various categories for multiple years in a row.
This year, we won in the Learning and Development category for our Data Academy Apprenticeship. We were also shortlisted for ‘Best Digital Innovation - Organisation Strategy’, ‘Large Building Performance Consultancy’, and ‘Leadership’.
We were also members of the team for 11 & 12 Wellington Place, which won in the ‘New Workplace Project of the Year’ category and was shortlisted for ‘Collaboration’. (Well done to Philip Mannis, Thom Bone and all others involved in this fantastic project).
Leadership and Development: our Data Academy Apprenticeship.
Congratulations to both Tom Collins and Olivia Evans for driving this programme, along with the wider Digital and Learning and Organisational Development Teams.
Our Data Academy launched in 2023, with a goal to ensure our engineers and consultants have the vital data, AI and digital skills to put Hoare Lea in the position of industry leaders.
Positive impact on building performance has been immediate where our people have been able to apply data science to their work. We’re capturing and analysing huge amounts of real-world data, using insights to change conversations with clients.
Some key areas of success include measurable efficiency savings (£150–250k annually from design software analysis; 75% time saving in reporting), and data tools helping secure projects with NHS and higher education clients.
The judges said:
“Hoare Lea showed that it put in a huge amount of effort to create, produce, maintain, and manage its initiative effectively. The scheme covered a lot of bases and showed itself to be delivering the most value. Data-driven statistics and clear evidence showed the entry wasn’t just a headline but a proven deliverable.”
