MEET OUR PEOPLE

David Cree.

Director, Southwest BU, Defence sector.

David has joined us as a Director in our Bristol office. He will be helping to grow our capability in the Defence sector, specifically in nuclear.

My career background.

I am from a contracting background so have spent a lot of my life on building sites managing installation works. For the past 15 years this has been concentrated in highly regulated sectors – predominantly nuclear – and has allowed me to work on unique, multibillion pound projects in the UK and around Europe.

My new role.

The Defence sector at Hoare Lea has been growing over the past few years, and now we’re looking to expand the works we offer in the nuclear sector.

My role will involve developing our nuclear capability, allowing us to execute a higher volume of more complex projects. I will be based in the Bristol office but I’m looking forward to visiting our offices all over the country.

One of the reasons why I love being an engineer is...

that I get to work on very complicated projects, many of which the world has never seen before. Engineers are endlessly curious so the complexity and the variety of what I work on is fantastic. Some of these projects are critical to national defence or national infrastructure, which also gives me a huge amount of pride.

My most memorable work moment...

would probably be being appointed project director to run a £140m contract as part of a £2bn nuclear defence project.

Our client reported directly to the prime minister every three months. The facility we were building and the engineering we were developing was brand new.

I was managing a team of about 220 engineers, managers, surveyors and fitters which really helped me develop my leadership style.

We had a strong team and a great culture, leading to a successful delivery.

In my spare time...

I love spending time with my wife and son, whether that be day trips out or just kicking about the house. I also like to keep fit and participate in fitness racing like HYROX and Spartan. Next year I am doing the Super-Human Games in Bristol. I am also a keen guitar and piano player.
