Industry Involvement.

Sustainability industry involvement.

Ashley Bateson and Josie Young coordinated the annual conference for the Building Services Engineers Declaration of the Climate Emergency. This was held in June in central London, and hosted engineers, sustainability consultants, architects and clients.

Josie facilitated a discussion on climate resilience, and Alice Jackson (with Will Belfield, Overbury) presented on the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard.

Alice Jackson also took part in a panel called Drawing on Skills for Places hosted by NLA. The panel was made up of industry, public sector, and academic professionals. They discussed emerging landscape of green jobs, identify critical skills gaps, and consider the systemic changes needed to empower a diverse generation of city-makers to shape a more sustainable London.

Drawing on Skills for Places is NLA’s most recent research report. This conference explored how London can meet the growing demand for green skills by rethinking how we attract, train, and support future city makers. From carbon literacy and digital design to retrofit and circular construction, the built environment sector is evolving rapidly—yet skills provision, awareness, and access haven’t caught up.

Sky Studios Elstree was also shortlisted for two BREEAM Awards for ‘New Construction Commercial’ and ‘People’s Choice Commercial Building’.

Big Bang 2025.

In June, we supported IHEEM at the Big Bang 2025. This event was attended by thousands of school kids to help them think about what they want to do when they’re older.

We provided a VR game, and the stand was supported by Kelly Reed, Matt Partridge, Katie O'Sullivan, Magda Wudecka, David Iroegbunam, Adnaan Patel and Nick Nicholson. Anni Feng and Andy Vernon were also involved, supporting the event remotely across the three days.

Well done to all involved in making the event a big success. IHEEM are delighted with how we helped support them. They have invited all involved to their conference and meal towards the end of the year as a thank you.

A special visit.

Year 5 pupils from Kings Cross Academy visited our London office to learn about what life is like as an Engineer. The pupils enjoyed the interactions with our engineers, exploring the various models on display. One pupil was so inspired that they told their teacher, "I want to be an engineer."

After a presentation, the kids made paper helicopters, and then launched their creations from the balcony, which brought a lot of laughter.

These activities are from our own STEAM resources, which you can find on Hive.
